White Rabbits Reprise

Twilight time, a time of magic and memories
A time of smoke, mirrors and in between
When chimneys belch golden fairies
And the blue sirens make deathlike screams

Where beneath the light of the sodium glow
The wild white rabbit pales to grey
Industrial waste is piled high like snow
And wind whipped colours flavour decay

Then at the littered remains of the day
All the mottled herds rock and roll
To the broken tunes of a time far away
With red ringed eyes and a bitter soul

You can see them, silhouette
Against the backdrop of darkling towers
Whispers of clouds and flecks of jet
Staring out from leaden acid showers

A tiny little girl comes to call
Dressed like an angel in buttered clothes
Who plays in the dirt and the grime of it all
Who talks to the rabbit and mutters and scolds

Leporid insanity runs through her veins
They take her away and put her to bed
Where white rabbits will counter her claims
And clean the dream she had in her head
